The Glens at Birkdale – Huntersville, NC

I had a wonderful evening tonight playing for the good people at The Glens at Birkdale Commons! This was the second year in a row I have been asked to play Chirstmas music for their holiday dinner party. The Glens is a charming retirement community in Huntersville, NC, and I was honored to be asked back again this year. Since this was my last event for the 2010 holiday season, I thoroughly enjoyed myself as I played through my Christmas music. Sadly, I left my camera at home by accident, so no photo to post 😦

This was a great way to close out my year of harp playing – harp music by beautifully decorated dining room, a sparkly Christmas tree and folks out enjoying one another’s company.

I had the privilege to play some Christmas music at a friendly little church in downtown Monroe, NC.  As a surprise for her congregation, the music director asked me to come and play the prelude for their Christmas Musicale.  I always enjoy playing Christmas music, so this gave me the chance to do all my favorites for harp: What Child Is This, In the Deep Midwinter, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear…and more!

I also thoroughly enjoyed sitting back when my part was finished to listen to the choir sing, and hear those wonderful and timeless scriptures about Jesus’ birth recited. A great way to ponder the true meaning of Christmas!

And He shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6

The Dairy Barn – Fort Mill, SC

I can’t think of a better way to spend an evening in December than at a romantic Christmas wedding!  (Certainly much more peaceful than the mall I drove past on my way, with not a parking space to be found!) This couple chose to say their vows at the rustic yet elegant Dairy Barn in Fort Mill, SC. In case you’re wondering – it really is a former barn, which has been converted into a beautiful location for special events. Upstairs is a large room with wooden floors and a soaring ceiling with rafters, and a huge window that creates the perfect backdrop for a wedding ceremony.

Music for this special ceremony included a nice mix of classical and modern music for the pre-ceremony, and some great song choices by the bride:

Seating of the Grandparents and Mothers – A Time for Us from Romeo & Juliet

Processional – The Prayer

Unity Candle – The Lord’s Prayer

Recessional – Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring

I had the great pleasure of being asked to perform for the annual Board Member Holiday Dinner at Charlotte Country Club. I played for this event last year as well, and it was great to be back!  I really enjoy playing Christmas music on the harp, and I can’t think of a better setting. The club was decked out for the season with brightly lit trees, garlands and a cozy fire going in the fireplace. Guests dined at tables decorated with spectacular centerpieces, so tall they nearly touched the elgant chandeliers.

If you’re looking for a truly elegant venue for your event, I would highly recommend this location. Besides being a gorgeous country club , the staff there are always so friendly, professional and do a great job at serving their guests. I had plenty of help getting my harp in and out of the car and up the steps! Thanks again to Charlotte Country Club for inviting me to play again this year, it really is a pleasure!
