Tips for Choosing Wedding Music

Now that the holidays are done, I’m sure that many of you brides and grooms are starting to really focus on getting your wedding plans finalized. “Wedding Season” will be upon us before we know it, and when it comes to planning out a big event, it’s never too early to get as many details nailed down as possible.

Which brings us to just one of those details: the music (which of course is my personal favorite!) If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the choices out there, a great starting point is to first decide if your wedding will be more traditional or non-traditional. For a traditional wedding you might use classic songs like Pachelbel’s Cannon in D, Wedding March or Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring. For a more non-traditional feel you could walk down the aisle to the country-western song that was playing on the radio while he proposed, or use Come Sail Away by the Styx as your Recessional (just to name a few!) Once your decide upon the atmosphere you’d like the music to set, it will help you narrow down your song choices.

To narrow it down even further, you might also think about the atmosphere you’d like the music to set – would you rather have a beautifully serene ambiance (think soft and sentimental), or would you like your guests to feel as though they were celebrating with your “wedding party” 🙂

Once you’ve thought all this through, don’t feel as though you have to choose your wedding music alone! For all my clients, I really do my best to help – whether it be playing some samples for them at a consultation or giving suggestions of what other couples have used. Scroll down through my blog, and you’ll be able to see all the music for each event listed. There are also many helpful websites out there where you can find wedding music listed by category (processional, unity candle, recessional, etc.); some even have song clips so you can listen to the ones you’re not familiar with. You can also ask around among your family members and friends to see what music they had at their weddings. If you’re a sentimental soul, having the same song for your processional as your mother walked down the aisle to can be really meaningful.

MY TOP TIP…While it is definitely an important part of your special day, don’t get too stressed over choosing your music!  Make it a fun way to express your individuality to your wedding guests.
